| Description: | Mayor Bloomberg gave the this morning at his alma mater, Johns Hopkins, which is to count him as an alumnus despite all the jokes he cracks about his boozy nights and lousy grades.
And instead of just knocking the two major parties for ideological gridlock, he praised liberals and conservatives in turn:
“When I arrived fifty years ago, the promise of the American dream was still out of reach for far too many. There was no Civil Rights Act for minorities, no Voting Right Act for the disenfranchised, no Medicaid for the poor, and no Medicare for the elderly.
“But by the time the 60s ended, all of that had changed, and it changed because Americans - many of them young like you - had the courage to fight for their ideals. Those changes transformed America for the better. And other positive changes followed - including women’s rights and environmental protection.
